Making a Wooden Cross From rough to (hopefully) artful

For a while now, I have been pondering trying my hand at woodworking, and even eventually turning it into a profession. The final push that I needed to get started came a few weeks ago when my daughter asked me what I do at work—I do online marketing for a living. I couldn’t come up with an easy way to explain what I do at work. This bothered me, and eventually I came to the conclusion that if I could not explain to a young child what I do for work, then the work must not be producing anything of value—I have known this for a while, but my job helps keep a roof over our heads, and food on the table, so I am not going to be ungrateful. But, that exchange with my daughter was enough to push me to take the first step towards a (potential) woodworking career.

I have done projects like building a pigeon coop, or making a rough-looking coat rack, but I have not done any fine woodwork.

I got this domain (woodencross.com) a long time ago, with the intention of selling Christian crosses, but now, I will use it to document my attempt at woodworking. Hopefully, I’ll get good enough where my work product will be of enough value to others so that I can make a living from it. We’ll see.
